What to Expect
This is Clifton Coffee's foundational espresso blend — a decade-old direct trade partnership with Ricardo Lima's family in El Salvador, built for consistency and approachability. Expect cinnamon roll sweetness, marmalade brightness, and baker's chocolate depth in a medium-bodied, espresso-roasted cup.
The Cup
Medium body with a round, syrupy mouthfeel that carries the weight you want from an espresso roast. Acidity is moderate and citric — present enough to keep things lively (that marmalade note), but not sharp or challenging. This is clean, washed-process coffee: no funk, no ferment, just straightforward sweetness and balance. The cinnamon and chocolate notes come from the roast development, not the origin, and they work well together without stepping on each other.
Who This Is For
This suits drinkers who want a reliable, crowd-pleasing espresso that doesn't demand precision or experimentation. It's built for volume and consistency, and it delivers exactly that.
If you're chasing bright, fruit-forward filter coffees or experimental processing, this won't scratch that itch.
Best for: Home baristas and espresso drinkers who value consistency and approachable sweetness over complexity.
How to Brew This Coffee
This is roasted for espresso, where the syrupy body and developed sweetness will shine through milk or stand up solo. It also works well in an Aeropress if you want a concentrated, espresso-style cup without the machine. For a fuller-bodied, low-fuss brew, try it in a Moka pot — the roast level and chocolate notes suit the method's intensity.

Back in 2015, we launched our first direct trade program, The E1 Project.
The aim was simple; to find a partner that we could build a long-lasting relationship with and who could deliver high volumes of consistently great coffee. For this, we turned to Ricardo Lima (pictured above), part of a family of passionate farmers and producers from El Salvador.
Ricardo’s drive for change and reform for Salvadorian coffee is second to none, him and his family over recent years have been at for the forefront of the region's focus on speciality coffee, pushing for a truly sustainable future and working with local communities to generate wide-spread change.
E1 became the foundation of our sourcing program, and now we're proud to say that 90% of our coffee volume is being bought directly from origin through our own relationships.
Over 10 years on, E1 remains one of our most popular coffees, and it stands as a firm reminder of the development we've made towards sourcing and how rewarding the effects a truly transparent supply chain can have for everyone involved.

Ways to Brew
-
Espresso
An intense, concentrated brewing method that forces hot water through finely-ground coffee under high pressure. This produces a small, powerful shot with rich crema, serving as the foundation for countless coffee drinks while delivering bold flavors and aromatic complexity.
-
Aeropress
An innovative, portable brewing device that uses air pressure to extract coffee quickly and efficiently. This versatile method allows for experimentation with brewing times and techniques, producing anything from espresso-style concentrates to smooth, full-flavored cups with remarkable consistency.
-
Moka
The Moka brewing method uses a three-chambered, stove-top pot to create strong, concentrated coffee by forcing hot water through coffee grounds using steam pressure.
