What to Expect

This washed Red Bourbon from Mutambu Hill in Burundi delivers the bright, berry-forward character the region is known for, with a clean sweetness that keeps things approachable. Roasted by Dear Green, it's a classic example of what high-altitude East African coffee can do when processing stays out of the way.

The Cup

The body is medium and silky, with enough weight to feel satisfying without becoming heavy. Acidity is bright and citric, leaning toward tangerine tartness with a bramble-like berry edge that gives the cup its liveliness. This is a clean, washed coffee through and through—no funk, no ferment character, just clear fruit and sweetness. The cane sugar note rounds out the finish, balancing the brightness without dulling it.

Who This Is For

If you enjoy bright, fruit-forward coffees with clarity and a juicy mouthfeel, this will suit you well. It's for drinkers who appreciate acidity as a feature, not a flaw.

If you prefer chocolatey, low-acid coffees with a heavier body, this one will feel too sharp and light for your taste.

Best for: Filter drinkers who love clean, berry-bright East African coffees with balanced sweetness.

How to Brew This Coffee

A V60 will give you the best clarity and let the bramble and tangerine notes shine with precision. Filter methods like a Kalita Wave or Chemex work beautifully too, offering a slightly rounder body while preserving the brightness. An Aeropress with a shorter brew time will emphasise the sweetness and give you a bit more body if you want a fuller cup.
