What to Expect
This washed Colombian from the ASMUCAFE women's cooperative in Cauca delivers a clean, balanced cup that sits comfortably between bright and sweet. Forest fruit notes lead, backed by almond and caramel — it's approachable without being boring, and the washed process keeps everything clear and easy to read.
The Cup
Medium body with a silky, rounded mouthfeel. The acidity is moderate and malic — present enough to keep things lively but not sharp or citric. Forest fruit character gives it a gentle berry sweetness, while almond adds a nutty softness and caramel brings brown sugar warmth. It's clean all the way through, with no funk or ferment — the washed process lets the terroir speak without interference. The altitude range (1400-2000 MASL) shows in the complexity, particularly at the upper end where the beans develop more nuance.
Who This Is For
This suits drinkers who want something interesting but not challenging — balanced enough for daily drinking, with enough character to keep your attention. It's a solid choice if you're exploring Colombian coffee beyond the chocolate-forward stereotype.
If you're chasing high-acidity, fruit-bomb naturals or delicate floral notes, this won't deliver that intensity.
Best for: Daily filter drinkers who want clean, balanced coffee with gentle fruit and sweetness.
How to Brew This Coffee
The balanced profile makes this versatile across methods. V60 will highlight the forest fruit clarity and let the almond and caramel notes separate cleanly. Filter methods bring out the sweetness and make this an easy, repeatable daily brew. Aeropress works well if you want a bit more body and a rounder, slightly more concentrated cup without losing the fruit character.

We were lucky enough to visit the members of this cooperative in 2019 and were impressed by their passion and commitment to produce the best coffee they could. The members of ASMUCAFE had even set up a lab to help their own learning and development of roasting and sensory evaluation and in order to improve the quality of their crop and gain a higher price for what is referred to as their 'peace crop' following years of unrest. You can read more over on our blog.
ASMUCAFE stands for Asociación de Mujeres Agropecuarias de Uribe, an organization of women farmers and landowners in El Tambo, a municipality within Cauca. The women’s mission as an association is to improve their families’ quality of life through coffee farming, and to contribute positively to their community by working together and sharing resources, knowledge, and support. “Our work is determined by our values such as responsibility, honesty, commitment, respect, solidarity, and competitiveness,” they say.

A filter coffee machine (or drip coffee maker) is an often electric kitchen appliance that brews coffee by heating water, passing it through ground coffee and a filter, and dripping the finished brew into a carafe.
-
