What to Expect

This Kenyan washed coffee from Priory Farm delivers the tart, citric brightness Kenya is known for, but with an unusual bitter-sweet edge. Managed by Zakiya-Rose Muge in Nandi Hills, it's a clean, high-clarity cup with a distinctive Campari-like bitterness threading through lemon tea and honey sweetness.

The Cup

The body is medium and juicy, with a mouthfeel that's clean but not thin. Acidity is high and citric, sharp enough to wake you up but balanced by honey sweetness. The Campari note brings a bitter, herbal edge that's unusual for a washed Kenyan — it's clean and bright, not funky, but it does add complexity that some drinkers will find intriguing and others might find challenging.

Who This Is For

If you love bright, tart Kenyan coffees and appreciate a bit of bitter complexity alongside the sweetness, this will suit you. It's for drinkers who want clarity and character, not smoothness. If you prefer chocolatey, low-acid coffees or find citric acidity too sharp, this one will challenge you.

Best for: Filter drinkers who enjoy high-acidity Kenyan coffees with a bitter-sweet twist.

How to Brew This Coffee

A V60 will give you maximum clarity and let that Campari bitterness and lemon tea character shine through with precision. Filter methods like Kalita Wave or Chemex will soften the acidity slightly while preserving the honey sweetness. An Aeropress works well if you want a rounder, slightly fuller body without losing the brightness.
