How does delivery work?

Every roaster on Coffee Nerdery ships your coffee directly to you, usually roasted to order. So delivery is charged per roaster, and free delivery thresholds apply per roaster too, not across your whole basket. Order from three roasters, and each delivery is counted separately.

We know that feels unfamiliar, because the ‘everything store’ trained us all to expect free shipping on everything. But that "free" was never really free; it’s paid for by scale that small roasters can’t replicate, and margins squeezed from suppliers. Coffee Nerdery takes nothing from your postage. Every penny goes to the roaster to cover the cost of getting your coffee to you. Paying it directly is a small act of support for an independent business doing one thing exceptionally well.

What to Expect

This is Brazilian coffee doing what it does best: chocolate, nuts, and a gentle fruit sweetness that never shouts. Fazenda Matão's natural process adds red berry and dried fruit character without tipping into funky territory, making it an easy-drinking introduction to naturals or a reliable everyday option for those who already know they like them.

The Cup

You're looking at a medium-heavy body with a round, smooth mouthfeel. The acidity sits low to moderate, more of a gentle backdrop than a bright pop. This is a clean natural, meaning you get the fruit sweetness and body that come with the process but without the wine-like ferment or boozy notes that can polarise. Expect chocolate and hazelnut as the base, with red berry and a hint of caramel rounding things out. It's straightforward in the best sense.

Who This Is For

If you want something approachable, comforting, and versatile across brew methods, this fits. It's also a good gateway if you're natural-process curious but not ready for the full fermented fruit experience.

If you're chasing bright, complex acidity or floral high-altitude character, this won't deliver that.

Best for: Daily drinkers who want chocolate-forward comfort with a touch of fruit sweetness.

How to Brew This Coffee

A French Press will emphasise the body and bring out the chocolate and nut character beautifully. Filter methods keep things balanced and let the red fruit sweetness shine without losing the weight. It'll also work well as Espresso if you prefer a lower-acid shot with good body and sweetness.

Ways to Brew

  • French Press

    French Press

A French Press (or Cafetiere) is a simple, manual coffee maker that brews rich, full-bodied coffee by steeping coarse grounds in hot water, then separating them by pressing a mesh filter down with a plunger, allowing the coffee's natural oils and sediment to remain for a bolder flavour.

  • Filter

    Filter

A filter coffee machine (or drip coffee maker) is an often electric kitchen appliance that brews coffee by heating water, passing it through ground coffee and a filter, and dripping the finished brew into a carafe.

  • Espresso

    Espresso

An intense, concentrated brewing method that forces hot water through finely-ground coffee under high pressure. This produces a small, powerful shot with rich crema, serving as the foundation for countless coffee drinks while delivering bold flavors and aromatic complexity.

Forge Valley Roasters

Forge Valley Roasters was founded in 2023 by Chris and Tash in North Yorkshire, growing from humble cottage beginnings into a speciality coffee roastery rooted in the landscapes and communities of the North York Moors and Scarborough. Their journey began over 15 years ago and has taken them across the Atlantic and back, ultimately leading them to establish a home and purpose on the North East coast of England. Starting with a small Cormorant roaster in their kitchen and selling at local markets, they gradually built a micro roastery on the grounds of their cottage and expanded into vibrant community spaces, including the Dawnay Estate. Through continuous learning, experimentation, and a deep commitment to craft, they have developed a hands-on approach to roasting that reflects both technical precision and genuine Yorkshire hospitality, supported throughout by a strong and loyal local community.
