How does delivery work?

Every roaster on Coffee Nerdery ships your coffee directly to you, usually roasted to order. So delivery is charged per roaster, and free delivery thresholds apply per roaster too, not across your whole basket. Order from three roasters, and each delivery is counted separately.

We know that feels unfamiliar, because the ‘everything store’ trained us all to expect free shipping on everything. But that "free" was never really free; it’s paid for by scale that small roasters can’t replicate, and margins squeezed from suppliers. Coffee Nerdery takes nothing from your postage. Every penny goes to the roaster to cover the cost of getting your coffee to you. Paying it directly is a small act of support for an independent business doing one thing exceptionally well.

What to Expect

This washed Peruvian from the high-altitude Jaén region delivers a comforting, sweetness-forward cup. Think cocoa and honey biscuit with a gentle gooseberry brightness that keeps things interesting without demanding too much attention.

The Cup

The body sits comfortably in medium territory with a smooth, rounded mouthfeel that doesn't weigh you down. Acidity is moderate and malic, offering just enough lift to balance the sweetness without turning sharp or citric. This is clean, straightforward coffee with no funk or ferment character to navigate. The washed process keeps everything transparent and origin-focused, letting the terroir speak without interference.

Who This Is For

If you want a reliable, approachable coffee that works any time of day and doesn't require careful coaxing from your brewer, this fits the brief. It's particularly good for drinkers who find bright, acidic coffees too intense but still want more character than a flat, chocolatey Brazil.

If you're chasing floral complexity or fruit-bomb intensity, this won't deliver that.

Best for: Daily drinkers who value balance and sweetness over fireworks.

How to Brew This Coffee

A V60 will highlight the gooseberry acidity and keep the cup clean and defined. Filter methods bring out the honey and malt sweetness with a bit more body. French Press emphasises the cocoa notes and rounds out the mouthfeel if you prefer a fuller, more comforting cup.

Forge Valley Roasters

Forge Valley Roasters was founded in 2023 by Chris and Tash in North Yorkshire, growing from humble cottage beginnings into a speciality coffee roastery rooted in the landscapes and communities of the North York Moors and Scarborough. Their journey began over 15 years ago and has taken them across the Atlantic and back, ultimately leading them to establish a home and purpose on the North East coast of England. Starting with a small Cormorant roaster in their kitchen and selling at local markets, they gradually built a micro roastery on the grounds of their cottage and expanded into vibrant community spaces, including the Dawnay Estate. Through continuous learning, experimentation, and a deep commitment to craft, they have developed a hands-on approach to roasting that reflects both technical precision and genuine Yorkshire hospitality, supported throughout by a strong and loyal local community.
