How does delivery work?

Every roaster on Coffee Nerdery ships your coffee directly to you, usually roasted to order. So delivery is charged per roaster, and free delivery thresholds apply per roaster too, not across your whole basket. Order from three roasters, and each delivery is counted separately.

We know that feels unfamiliar, because the ‘everything store’ trained us all to expect free shipping on everything. But that "free" was never really free; it’s paid for by scale that small roasters can’t replicate, and margins squeezed from suppliers. Coffee Nerdery takes nothing from your postage. Every penny goes to the roaster to cover the cost of getting your coffee to you. Paying it directly is a small act of support for an independent business doing one thing exceptionally well.

What to Expect

This is Sanctuary Coffee's love letter to the coffee you grew up with. Dark roasted Brazilian beans from Alta Mogiana deliver dark chocolate, toffee, and walnut in a heavy, creamy cup with almost no acidity.

The Cup

The body is full and round, with a creamy mouthfeel that coats your palate. Acidity is muted to near silence — this is a low-acid coffee by design, letting roast-driven sweetness and chocolate take centre stage. It's clean in the sense that there's no funk or ferment character, despite the natural processing and anaerobic fermentation. The dark roast has smoothed those edges into caramelised warmth.

Who This Is For

If you want a bold, familiar coffee that tastes like coffee — not like fruit salad — this is your bag. It's for drinkers who value body and sweetness over brightness and complexity.

If you're chasing floral notes, high acidity, or origin-forward clarity, this isn't the one. The roast level has other plans.

Best for: Traditionalists who want a rich, low-acid coffee that works beautifully with milk or stands up solo.

How to Brew This Coffee

Espresso is the obvious choice — dark roasts were made for the pressure and intensity of the machine, and this one delivers chocolate and toffee in spades. A French Press will emphasise the creamy body and let the walnut character linger. For something in between, an Aeropress gives you control over strength while keeping that full-bodied richness intact.

Ways to Brew

  • Espresso

    Espresso

An intense, concentrated brewing method that forces hot water through finely-ground coffee under high pressure. This produces a small, powerful shot with rich crema, serving as the foundation for countless coffee drinks while delivering bold flavors and aromatic complexity.

  • French Press

    French Press

A French Press (or Cafetiere) is a simple, manual coffee maker that brews rich, full-bodied coffee by steeping coarse grounds in hot water, then separating them by pressing a mesh filter down with a plunger, allowing the coffee's natural oils and sediment to remain for a bolder flavour.

  • Aeropress

    Aeropress

An innovative, portable brewing device that uses air pressure to extract coffee quickly and efficiently. This versatile method allows for experimentation with brewing times and techniques, producing anything from espresso-style concentrates to smooth, full-flavored cups with remarkable consistency.

Sanctuary Coffee

Sanctuary Coffee was founded in 2021 by Marcus and Rhian, who set out to create a coffee company driven not only by quality and craft, but by a deeper social purpose. Inspired by the challenges faced by animal rescue organisations in the UK, they built the brand around the idea of using speciality coffee as a force for good, supporting rehoming charities and animal welfare initiatives alongside their roasting work. Starting in London with a small wholesale customer base and pop-up appearances across markets and collaborations, Sanctuary Coffee quickly gained recognition for both its coffee and its cause. As the business grew, it expanded beyond the capital, establishing a permanent home in Devon while continuing to evolve its production and wholesale operations. Today, Sanctuary Coffee balances high-quality roasting with a strong community ethos, using its growth to increase charitable impact and build a brand rooted in compassion, connection, and purpose.
