How does delivery work?

Every roaster on Coffee Nerdery ships your coffee directly to you, usually roasted to order. So delivery is charged per roaster, and free delivery thresholds apply per roaster too, not across your whole basket. Order from three roasters, and each delivery is counted separately.

We know that feels unfamiliar, because the ‘everything store’ trained us all to expect free shipping on everything. But that "free" was never really free; it’s paid for by scale that small roasters can’t replicate, and margins squeezed from suppliers. Coffee Nerdery takes nothing from your postage. Every penny goes to the roaster to cover the cost of getting your coffee to you. Paying it directly is a small act of support for an independent business doing one thing exceptionally well.

What to Expect

Throwback from Small Batch is a blend that does what traditional espresso used to do before dark roasting became the default: it balances chocolate weight with fruit brightness, no bitterness required. The mix of Colombian and Ethiopian beans, split between natural and washed processing, gives you richness and clarity in the same cup.

The Cup

The body is medium to full, with a round, chocolatey mouthfeel that holds up well in milk. Acidity is moderate and citric, coming through as a clean, fruity aftertaste rather than a sharp front note. The natural-process component adds a touch of berry sweetness without tipping into funky territory. It's a clean blend with enough character to drink black, but it really shines when milk softens the edges and amplifies the hazelnut and dark chocolate.

Who This Is For

This is for drinkers who want espresso that tastes like coffee, not carbon. It suits those who like milk drinks but don't want the coffee to disappear entirely, and black drinkers who prefer balance over brightness.

If you're chasing floral complexity or high-acid fruit bombs, this isn't that coffee.

Best for: Espresso drinkers who want chocolate and fruit without the roast, especially in milk.

How to Brew This Coffee

Espresso is the natural home for Throwback, where the blend's balance and body come into focus, particularly with milk. Aeropress works well if you want a concentrated, espresso-like cup with a bit more control over extraction. French Press emphasises the chocolatey body and rounds out the citrus, making it approachable and forgiving for a slower morning.

Ways to Brew

  • Espresso

    Espresso

An intense, concentrated brewing method that forces hot water through finely-ground coffee under high pressure. This produces a small, powerful shot with rich crema, serving as the foundation for countless coffee drinks while delivering bold flavors and aromatic complexity.

  • Aeropress

    Aeropress

An innovative, portable brewing device that uses air pressure to extract coffee quickly and efficiently. This versatile method allows for experimentation with brewing times and techniques, producing anything from espresso-style concentrates to smooth, full-flavored cups with remarkable consistency.

  • French Press

    French Press

A French Press (or Cafetiere) is a simple, manual coffee maker that brews rich, full-bodied coffee by steeping coarse grounds in hot water, then separating them by pressing a mesh filter down with a plunger, allowing the coffee's natural oils and sediment to remain for a bolder flavour.
